Crash
Analoge elektronica, gevonden en gerecycleerd materiaal
Crash (het werk) bestaat uit een installatie van gevonden en gerecycleerde elementen. Het stelt een neerstortend ruimtetuig voor, een fractie van een seconde na de impact.
Onder invloed van een beperkte hoeveelheid licht komt het tuig slechts haperend en stotterend weer tot leven: ketens van analoge elektronische cellen vangen licht op en zetten het om in lichtpatronen en pulserende geluiden.
Het invallend licht wordt beïnvloed door een mobiel van rondvliegende brokstukken.
De elektronica van het werk is volledig analoog en werkt op zonnecellen.
Met het werk wil ik de bezoeker laten ervaren dat fotosynthese een universeel concept is, dat licht als energiebron de basis is van bekende en onbekende levensvormen.

Électronique analogique, matériaux trouvés et recyclés
Crash est une installation composée d’éléments trouvés et recyclés. L’œuvre représente un vaisseau spatial en train de s’écraser, une fraction de seconde après l’impact.
Sous l’effet d’une quantité limitée de lumière, l’appareil ne reprend vie qu’avec difficulté, par à-coups : des chaînes de cellules électroniques analogiques captent la lumière et la transforment en motifs lumineux et en pulsations sonores.
La lumière qui pénètre est perturbée par un tourbillon de débris.
Le système électronique de l’œuvre est entièrement analogique et fonctionne à l’énergie solaire.
À travers cette œuvre, je souhaite faire découvrir au visiteur que la photosynthèse est un concept universel, et que la lumière, en tant que source d’énergie, est à la base de formes de vie connues et inconnues.

Analogue electronics, found and recycled materials
Crash (the work) consists of an installation made from found and recycled elements. It depicts a crashing spacecraft, a fraction of a second after impact.
Under the influence of a limited amount of light, the craft comes back to life only haltingly and stutteringly: chains of analogue electronic cells capture light and convert it into light patterns and pulsating sounds.
The incident light is influenced by a mobile of flying debris.
The work’s electronics are entirely analogue and powered by solar cells.
Through this work, I aim to let the visitor experience that photosynthesis is a universal concept, and that light, as a source of energy, forms the basis of both known and unknown life forms.
