Lithofaan van porselein geplaatst in holle boomschijf
Een lithofaan is nauw verbonden met het thema’ Chemie van het licht’. Het licht wat nodig is om een lithofaan te laten schitteren inspireerde mij bij het creëren van deze werken. Op dezelfde manier is licht onmisbaar voor de plantengroei: het voedt het proces van fotosynthese, waarmee planten hun eigen energie opwekken.
Een lithofaan is een fascinerend kunstobject waarin licht en materie samenwerken om een beeld tot leven te wekken. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt het een eenvoudige, doorschijnende plaat, gemaakt van porselein. Maar zodra er licht achter schijnt, verschijnt er een gedetailleerde afbeelding- bijna alsof het licht het geheim van de materie onthult.
De lithofanen heb ik gepresenteerd in een holle boomschijf. Hiermee wil ik benadrukken dat ook een boom, net als een lithofaan afhankelijk is van het licht. Zonder licht geen bladgroenverlichting, geen groei, geen leven.
Fotosynthese is van essentieel belang in de natuur en voor het leven op aarde.

Une lithophanie est étroitement liée au thème de la « chimie de la lumière ». La lumière nécessaire pour révéler une lithophanie m’a inspiré lors de la création de ces œuvres. De la même manière, la lumière est indispensable à la croissance des plantes : elle alimente le processus de photosynthèse, grâce auquel elles produisent leur propre énergie.
Une lithophanie est un objet d’art fascinant où lumière et matière s’unissent pour donner vie à une image. À première vue, elle ressemble à une simple plaque translucide de porcelaine. Mais dès qu’elle est éclairée par l’arrière, une image détaillée apparaît, comme si la lumière dévoilait le secret de la matière.
J’ai présenté les lithophanies dans une tranche de tronc d’arbre creuse. Je souhaite ainsi souligner qu’un arbre, tout comme une lithophanie, dépend de la lumière. Sans lumière, pas de photosynthèse, pas de croissance, pas de vie.
La photosynthèse est essentielle dans la nature et pour la vie sur Terre.

A lithophane is closely linked to the theme ‘Chemistry of Light’. The light required to make a lithophane sparkle inspired me in creating these works. In the same way, light is indispensable for plant growth: it fuels the process of photosynthesis, through which plants generate their own energy.
A lithophane is a fascinating art object in which light and matter work together to bring an image to life. At first glance, it appears to be a simple, translucent plate made of porcelain. But as soon as light shines behind it, a detailed image appears – as if the light were revealing the secret of the material.
I have presented the lithophanes within a hollow tree disc. In doing so, I wish to emphasise that a tree, just like a lithophane, is dependent on light. Without light, there is no chlorophyll, no growth, no life.
Photosynthesis is of vital importance in nature and for life on Earth.
