Coalpaint & steenkool op doek
Versteend Licht – 100 x 120 cm

Coalpaint & coal on canvas
Petrified Light – 100 x 120 cm
This painting captures the magical moment when photosynthesis takes place: light, water and CO₂ transforming into new forms. Hexagonal structures refer to glucose as a solid building block, whilst the circle represents oxygen: fluid and transient. All the paint is made with pigment from coal, a tangible reminder of photosynthesis from millions of years ago, literally fossilised light.
The painting is built up from many transparent layers that move from a dark, dense edge towards a lighter centre, without linear perspective. The reflective anthracite fragments in the centre represent both beginning and end, and render photosynthesis visible as a circular process of matter, time and energy.
What Emerges – 40 x 60 cm
A hexagon encompasses a circle of circles. In black, meaning shifts from form to breath, from image to rhythm. What is visible remains still; what emerges moves.
